DOLCE BORGO · CASA VACANZE

Our story

A tribute to grandmother Maria and to Italy as it has always been.

The story

A tribute, a memory and a legacy

Dolce Borgo Apartments was born as a tribute, a memory, and a legacy to the Di Maria Manzuetta family. Grandma Maria was a talented Roman pastry chef and the proud owner of her pastry shop. After the untimely loss of her great love, Pietro, she decided to open Dolce Borgo. With strength and dedication, she transformed her passion for pastry making into a place beloved by neighbors and visitors.

Via Della Conciliazioni, Roma

Her two sons remained at her side throughout, helping her and supporting her business. They all lived in the same neighborhood of Borgo Pio, so Grandma Maria was able to watch her three grandchildren grow up just steps away, among the same cobblestone streets where she had spent her entire life. Her pastry shop was located on the historic Via Borgo Pio, just 200 meters from one of the main entrances to the Vatican City, very close to St. Peter’s Basilica.

For many years it was an authentic Roman pastry shop, a sweet little corner of the neighborhood where travelers and Romans met.

Her home, now renovated and transformed into Dolce Borgo al Vaticano I, stood across the street from the pastry shop. Just 200 meters away, in Piazza Americo Capponi, her son and granddaughter lived, where Dolce Borgo al Vaticano II is now located. When the stifling summer heat arrived in the Eternal City, Grandma Maria would take refuge with her family in her lakeside house in Montefiascone.

Lago di Bolsena, Montefiascone

Situated about 600 meters above sea level and just 100 km north of Rome, this small medieval town offered the tranquility of the countryside, fresh air, and a slower pace of life. Just minutes away is the stunning Lake Bolsena, Europe’s largest volcanic lake, whose waters and landscapes created the perfect backdrop for family summers. Today, that same summer home—Dolce Borgo a Montefiascone—continues to be an ideal retreat for experiencing summer like a true Italian.

Although the Dolce Borgo pastry shop no longer exists, its name and spirit live on. Today, we, her heirs, carry on this story to honor the memory of Grandma Maria and continue, in our own way, this tradition of hospitality, welcoming travelers from around the world and sharing with them a small piece of this place that was her home.
